The only thing I am wishing for now is for Nora Roberts to make a book about Abigail and Lucian, their families, and how all of that got started. It would be boring and unrealistic to me to read about a perfect relationship in every book I pick up. For those of you complaining about how often the main characters fought, every relationship is different and it made it seem more real to me versus reading about a perfect relationship, like the one between the main characters in Year One.

I loved escaping into New Orleans and the bayous with Declan, feeling the desire between both he and Lena despite their random bickering sessions, and dying to know how/when Declan and Lena would find out about the history of the house and who they really are. Only the companionship of alluring Angelina Simone can distract him from the mysterious happenings in the house, but Angelina too has her own surprising connection to Manet Hall-a connection that will help Declan uncover a secret that's been buried for a hundred years. This is only the second Nora Roberts book Ive read (first was Year One) and Im so excited to say she is my new favorite author! I absolutely loved Midnight Bayou, everything from the characters to the plot to the setting, you name it. Local legend has it that the house is haunted, and with every passing day Declan's belief in the ghostly presence grows.

He is seeing visions of days from a century past, and experiencing sensations of terror and nearly unbearable grief-sensations not his own, but those of a stranger. But the days spent in total isolation in the empty house take a toll. So when the opportunity to buy the house comes up, Declan jumps at the chance to live out a dream.ĭetermined to restore Manet Hall to its former splendor, Declan begins the daunting renovation room by room, relying on his own labor and skills. All he knew was that ever since he first saw Manet Hall, he'd been enchanted-and obsessed-with it.
